Extension boards
Extending a MCU/microcontroller with other components is done with the “Extension” boards.
The new X2-Series has a different pin-out on the right side that gives new possibilities. So don’t mix the new X2-Series with the classic extension boards.
Form factors
There are several form factors possible.
For the lab the LeA_v5 offers easy access to pin headers on the same side as the MCU.
For deploying in a case in the field, the backplane offers more possibilities.
General description of the extension boards
PCB only without further components.
This board expands the Minimal-X Boards I2C, SPI, UART and 1-Wire with further header connectors โ readily accessible as header pins/plugs.
Extension Boards are extending the Adapter Boards for
- Heltec WiFi Lora 32
- Heltec Cube Cell
- ESP32 DevKitV1 30 pin from DOIT
Your advantages:
- Fast prototyping
- Efficient mini-batching
- Producing small batches of sensor nodes fast
- Industrial roughness
- Easy variation of configuration
- Easy exchange of parts
- Easy repair of parts
- Easy and fast upgrades
- Easy post development
- Plug and play
- Ready for mounting with drilled mounting holes
- Easy repeatable production
- Reliable connections

LeC_v1
Features
- 3 x I2C connector
- 7 x 1-Wire connector
- 2 x SPI connector
- 1 x UART connector in 2 configurations with 1 x TXRX / 1 x RXTX
- 1 x analogue connector
- 4 x analogue connector via ADS1115/ADS1110
- ADS1115 can be connected to either 3.3V or 5V as you like with a jumper.
- The address of the ADS1115 can be changed by jumper.
- SPI offers 5 extended and configurable lines for additional functionality; Suitable for up to 12 pin switchboard.
- space for a button. combined with jumpers for different adaptable configurations.
The first SPI connector is directly connected to wiring on the adapter board. So it will follow the wiring made on the adapter board.

Description Backplane Board, X2-Series
Either use it as it is, or split in two.
You can mount the extending pin headers on the front side as well the back side.
The pin headers going to the MCU, can be mounted to create a angle in relation to the adapter board of the MCU, which creates new opportunities in form factor. – Maybe the MCU has a display to place at a corner. Maybe the pin headers to the sensors / modules should be accessible from the side of the adapter board, instead of from the front.
